Report on Aerial Bombardment in Darfur

Introduction:
Several areas in Darfur are experiencing a severe deterioration in humanitarian conditions due to indiscriminate aerial bombardment carried out by the Sudanese military, targeting civilians in their homes and essential facilities. This report aims to document the attacks that took place on August 20, 2024, in the Al-Nasr and Al-Takamul neighborhoods, as well as the Tawisha area.

Details of the Bombing in the Al-Nasr and Al-Takamul Areas:
At 12:00 PM, the Al-Nasr and Al-Takamul neighborhoods were subjected to intense airstrikes. Eyewitnesses reported to the Darfur Victims Support Organization that the bombing targeted civilian areas without any presence of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The air force dropped four explosive barrels, leading to the destruction of the Al-Nasr Health Center and the deaths of Hajjah Tuwa and Hajjah Hasania.

The following individuals were injured: Maaz Zurqan, Nusa, Hawa, Naaman Ali Dawood his mother, the children of Mubarak Dawood, and the wife and children of Al-Tayyib Dawood.

Details of the Bombing in the Tawisha Area:
At 12:45 PM, the Sudanese military air force targeted the Al-Salam neighborhood in Tawisha, North Darfur State. The bombing resulted in the destruction of the home of Abdullah Asilu, 47 years old, a fuel trader. The attack claimed the lives of Abdullah Al-Basit Mohammed Abu Daqn, 22 years old, Abdullah’s relative; Omar Al-Douma Mohammed Hasabo, 76 years old; Safa Ismail Omar, 27 years old, a nurse at the Tawisha Rural Hospital and a member of the Tawisha Emergency Room, who was on her way to the hospital; Awad Ahmed Al-Sayer, 47 years old, who was struck by shrapnel while walking down the road; Hawa Omar Al-Douma, 32 years old, who worked at the Water Authority; and Najla Suleiman Yousif Mohammed, a volunteer at the Tawisha Rural Hospital.

Appeals and Urgent Requests:
1. We call upon all warring parties to immediately cease hostilities and put an end to the war that is targeting innocent civilians.
2. We urge the international community to take swift action to hold those responsible for these attacks accountable and bring them to justice in accordance with international law.
3. We demand the imposition of a comprehensive no-fly zone over Sudan to prevent further indiscriminate aerial attacks on civilian areas.
4. We call for the immediate opening of humanitarian corridors under international supervision to ensure that aid reaches the affected areas without delay.

Conclusion:
These attacks constitute a blatant violation of human rights and international humanitarian law, threatening the lives of thousands of civilians in Darfur. The Darfur Victims Support Organization reiterates its urgent call to the international community to take immediate action to protect civilians and provide the necessary humanitarian assistance to those affected in the region.
