Report on Humanitarian Aid Distribution at Sabreen Camp for Displaced Persons – East Darfur State, Ed Daein

Amid a severe humanitarian crisis characterized by food shortages and obstacles preventing aid delivery, the Darfur Victims Support Organization, in collaboration with the Save Al-Geneina Initiative, successfully provided much-needed assistance to displaced persons at Sabreen Camp in Ed Daein. This effort was accomplished despite significant challenges and restrictions imposed by the current circumstances.

On November 23, 2024, teams from both organizations distributed comprehensive food baskets to 200 displaced families, comprising a total of 947 individuals. These baskets included essential food supplies such as sorghum, rice, sugar, oil, soap, and premium wheat flour.

Distribution Details

The recipients, who were displaced from various regions including Nyala in South Darfur, Kutum in North Darfur, Al-Foula in West Kordofan, and Khartoum, expressed overwhelming gratitude for the initiative. They described the aid as a lifeline, marking the first time they had received such support since the outbreak of war in Sudan on April 15, 2023.

The displaced persons at Sabreen Camp warmly welcomed the assistance and extended their heartfelt thanks to the Darfur Victims Support Organization and the Save Al-Geneina Initiative. They also called for additional food baskets to meet their ongoing needs amid the harsh conditions they face.

Recommendations and Call for Collaborative Action

In light of the persistent humanitarian crisis affecting displaced persons in camps, the Darfur Victims Support Organization and Save Al-Geneina Initiative emphasize the following points:

1. The Role of National Organizations:

National organizations have demonstrated their capacity to reach affected areas and provide effective support despite significant challenges. Donors are urged to channel their assistance through these local organizations, which possess an intimate understanding of community needs and a greater ability to overcome obstacles.

2. Sustained Support:

The organizations call on all donors and humanitarian institutions to continue providing and scaling up humanitarian aid, particularly to camps that have yet to receive any assistance since the onset of the conflict.

3. Effective Partnerships:

Enhancing partnerships between national and international organizations is essential to coordinate efforts and ensure aid reaches the maximum number of beneficiaries.
