Darfur Victims Support Organization and the Hope and Safe Haven Organization Launch a Humanitarian Appeal After Distributing Food Baskets in Diba Nayra Camp

Tawila, North Darfur – June 27, 2025

As part of their urgent response to the worsening humanitarian crisis in North Darfur, the Darfur Victims Advocacy Organization, in partnership with the Hope and Safe Haven Organization, distributed 100 food baskets on June 23, 2025, to displaced families in the “New Diba Nayra” camp in the Tawila locality. The beneficiaries included people fleeing from El Fasher city and the Abu Shouk and Zamzam camps.

The camp shelters nearly 700,000 displaced persons—80% of whom are among the most vulnerable: women, children, and the elderly. These groups suffer from severe shortages of food, healthcare, and sanitation services. Toilets are nearly nonexistent, raising the risk of disease outbreaks.

In light of this, the two organizations are issuing an urgent humanitarian appeal to all local, regional, and international organizations to intervene immediately before the disaster escalates—especially with the upcoming rainy season, which will cut off roads and obstruct aid delivery. They warn that “the situation is heading toward catastrophe, and the absence of support in the coming weeks will push thousands of families toward famine and disease.”

It is noted that despite the importance of this aid, it remains insufficient given the scale of the crisis. The camp requires urgent intervention in food, water, and health services before it becomes isolated by the rains.
