Report on the Humanitarian and Health Situation in Darfur Region – August 19, 2025

Darfur Victims Advocacy Organization and Al-Amal & Al-Malath Organization

The two organizations conducted an interview with the official spokesperson of the Coordination of Displaced Persons and Refugees, Mr. Adam Rijal, who reported a cholera outbreak across Darfur. The outbreak has affected Tawila locality in North Darfur (El Fasher), Jebel Marra in Central Darfur, Nyala in South Darfur, Zalingei, and Shaeria locality in the Khazan Jadeed area of East Darfur (Ed Daein), with a concerning rise in daily cases reported in displacement centers.

  • In Tawila, most cases are concentrated in Murtal (south of Tawila) and Tabra. The cumulative number of cases since the outbreak began has reached 4,437, including 73 deaths. Currently, 98 cases are in isolation centers, with 43 new cases reported today.
  • In Tabra, the cumulative number of cases is 178.
  • In Rubaya and Tabessa, 94 cases have been recorded, including 4 deaths.
  • In Jebel Marra:
  • Golo: 1,105 cases, including 51 deaths
  • Geldo: 79 cases, including 8 deaths
  • Nertiti: 31 cases, including 4 deaths
  • Rokiro: 111 cases, including 7 deaths
  • Deribat (East Jebel Marra): 149 cases, including 9 deaths, with 47 cases in isolation
  • Fina: 2 confirmed cholera cases
  • In Sortoni camp, North Darfur: 37 cases, including 3 deaths
  • In South Darfur:
  • Kalma camp (Nyala): 435 cases, including 64 deaths
  • Otash camp: 207 cases, including 51 deaths
  • Dereig camp: 121 cases, including 4 deaths
  • Additional cases reported in Salam camp
  • In East Darfur (Shaeria locality, Khazan Jadeed area): 73 cases, including 18 deaths
  • In Central Darfur (Zalingei):
  • Hamidiya and Hassahissa camps: 75 cases, including 2 deaths
  • Khamsa Dageeg camp: 3 cases, including 1 death
  • Azum (west of Zalingei): 109 cases, including 2 deaths
  • Zalingei town: 89 cases
  • Kombo Weir agricultural area (east of Zalingei): 2 cases
  • Orkom (south of Zalingei): 4 cases
    The total number of cases across Darfur since the outbreak began has exceeded 7,161, including 306 deaths.
    The two organizations issue an urgent humanitarian appeal to all local, regional, and international organizations to intervene immediately and provide medical assistance.
