Editorial of Issue No. 9
Editor-in-Chief: Adam Musa Obama
In this ninth issue of Voices of the Victims, we continue our mission to convey the truth about the humanitarian and health situation in Sudan, and to shed light on the daily suffering of civilians in conflict zones. Darfur, White Nile, Kordofan, and other regions are not just names on a map—they represent human lives affected every moment by ongoing conflict and the collapse of the healthcare system.
In this issue, we commend the efforts of the organization Defend Defender, especially Mr. Hassan Al-Shiri and Nicholas, for their exceptional advocacy in renewing the mandate of the UN Fact-Finding Mission (FFM)—a vital step toward protecting civilians and ensuring accountability for violations. We hope that upcoming UN meetings will be more serious and effective in safeguarding the lives of victims.
We also reaffirm our condemnation of military operations that directly target civilians, including the killing of citizen Ahmed Gandoul in El Fasher by the Rapid Support Forces. He was a peaceful individual, unarmed. We likewise condemn drone strikes by the army in Kutum locality, which killed three civilians, and the bombing in Mellit locality, North Darfur, which claimed several lives and left others injured.
The violence has not stopped there—it continued in Tina locality, North Darfur, where a Rapid Support Forces drone targeted a community meeting aimed at resolving local issues. Additionally, the attack on Abu Shouk camp resulted in the death of twenty-six people. These crimes must end immediately, and those responsible must be held accountable at the highest levels.
We mourn the loss of Mawlana Tijani Adam Sabi, Chief Prosecutor of North Kordofan State, who was killed in his home in El-Obeid while performing his professional duties in a supposedly secure area. This incident is a blatant violation of the law, and we extend our deepest condolences to his family.
We also denounce the arbitrary arrests of more than 46 citizens in army-controlled areas under the pretext of collaboration with the Rapid Support Forces. These accusations are baseless and completely unacceptable. Anyone proven to have collaborated should be held accountable under the law—not based on ethnic or political affiliations. We urge all international organizations to stand by these citizens and ensure their immediate release.
This issue stands as a living testimony to the sacrifices of humanitarian workers, a voice for those who have lost their lives or rights, and a clear call for justice and accountability. It is a plea to the international community to take serious steps to protect civilians. At Voices of the Victims, we reaffirm our commitment to transparently documenting the truth, supporting those affected, and amplifying their voices everywhere.
