Issues an urgent humanitarian appeal: 75 displaced families arrive in Muhajiriya, East Darfur, on foot from Zamzam… urgent needs and absence of support

Muhajiriya, East Darfur – May 31, 2025

After a grueling journey on foot from Zamzam Camp in Darfur, 75 displaced families (comprising 350 individuals) have arrived at the Muhajiriya administrative unit in East Darfur, fleeing bombing and famine. The families have been distributed across temporary shelters: 30 families at Abu Bakr School and 45 families at the Girls’ Secondary School, most of them women, children, and the elderly in dire humanitarian conditions.

The new arrivals are suffering from severe shortages of shelter, food, and medicine, with only limited aid provided by the local community through voluntary donations—no intervention has come from international organizations or official bodies since their arrival.

Local volunteers report that urgent needs include blankets, food supplies, and essential medicines, especially as malnutrition and diarrhea spread among children. This wave of displacement comes amid the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Zamzam Camp, which is facing escalating famine and continuous shelling that has destroyed infrastructure and suspended international aid.

Despite UN warnings that 8 million Sudanese are on the brink of famine, Darfur continues to suffer from the lack of safe humanitarian corridors.

We appeal to the world: “The displaced need a helping hand before it’s too late.”
