In a scene that embodies the spirit of human solidarity amid the agony of war and the suffering of displacement, the Hope and Refuge Organization, in cooperation with the Darfur Victims Support Organization, distributed food baskets to displaced families in Kalma Camp, South Darfur State – Nyala, on October 7, 2025.
The initiative targeted 200 families, benefiting approximately 1,000 individuals among the most vulnerable groups. The distribution took place under the supervision of Mr. Yaqoub Furi, Coordinator of IDP Camps in Darfur, with the participation of community leaders who selected the beneficiaries to ensure that aid reached those most in need.
The displaced residents expressed their deep gratitude and appreciation to both organizations for their timely humanitarian assistance, which arrived at a critical moment. They called for continued and expanded support to include medical aid and emergency shelter, as Kalma Camp faces an acute shortage of food and medicine amid extremely harsh humanitarian conditions.
Kalma Camp is one of the largest displacement camps in the Darfur region, hosting more than 2.5 million internally displaced persons who fled the horrors of war and violence.
In light of this dire situation, the Darfur Victims Support Organization and the Hope and Refuge Organization issue an urgent humanitarian appeal to all local, regional, and international organizations to provide immediate food and medical assistance, and to strengthen humanitarian efforts to save lives and uphold the dignity of civilians inside Kalma Camp, South Darfur State.
