Who We Are

We’re a nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing the human rights and humanitarian needs of people in Sudan. DVS works to improve these communities by monitoring, reporting, and documenting violations, creating knowledge, raising awareness, finding solutions to problems, strengthening and building capacity, lobbying and advocating for better policies, programs, and practices, and sharing information to defend, protect, promote, and realize human rights.
DVS employs a human rights-based approach in all its activities. The founders of DVS come from backgrounds where human rights and humanitarian needs were often violated, leading them to form a collective of like-minded individuals committed to protecting and defending human rights and ensuring access to humanitarian aid for affected communities.

Our History

The Darfur Victims Support Organization (DVSO) was founded in response to the urgent and ongoing need to confront and alleviate the severe human rights abuses and humanitarian crises that have deeply affected the Darfur region in western Sudan. Its origins date back to 2003, a time marked by intense and violent conflict under the regime of Omar al-Bashir. This conflict led to widespread atrocities and suffering among the civilian population, including displacement, loss of life, and destruction of communities. DVSO is dedicated to advocating for victims, promoting justice, and supporting efforts to rebuild peace and stability in the region.
