Ad Daein, East Darfur, February 5, 2026
The Darfur Victims Support Organization (DVSO), in collaboration with the Hope and Haven Refugees Organization, has expressed deep concern following a large-scale fire that broke out on the morning of Monday, February 3, 2026, in the Donky Liklik neighborhood, south of Abu Karinka locality in East Darfur State.
According to eyewitness accounts received by the organizations, the fire erupted at approximately 9:30 a.m. and continued for nearly two hours before it was brought under control. The blaze completely destroyed an estimated 40 houses in Block 20, which were sheltering internally displaced persons (IDPs) who had fled conflict-affected areas of Darfur and Kordofan, as well as members of the local host community.
The incident resulted in extensive material losses, including the destruction of household belongings, furniture, food supplies, and a significant number of livestock. The affected families, many of whom were already living in vulnerable conditions due to prolonged displacement, are now facing even greater humanitarian hardship.
In response to the disaster, DVSO and the Hope and Haven Refugees Organization have issued an urgent appeal to local, regional, and international humanitarian agencies, government authorities, and charitable individuals to provide immediate assistance. Priority needs include emergency shelter materials such as tents, blankets, and basic kitchen items, as well as urgent food and health support. The organizations also emphasized the need for psychosocial assistance, particularly for women, children, and displaced persons who have been retraumatized by the incident.
The two organizations stated that they are continuing to monitor the situation closely and are coordinating with relevant stakeholders to facilitate rapid assistance to the affected families. They also expressed appreciation to all partners and individuals contributing to relief efforts amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region.
