Amid the dire humanitarian conditions endured by internally displaced persons (IDPs) due to the ongoing war and the widening scope of displacement, Darfur Victims Support, in collaboration with the Hope & Refuge Organization, carried out the distribution of emergency food baskets on 28 September 2025 in the Kurma Administrative Unit, North Darfur State.
This intervention reached approximately 300 households (around 2,500 individuals) who had fled the city of El Fasher and its surrounding camps, including Abu Shouk, Abuja, and Zamzam.
The displaced arrived in Kurma under tragic circumstances, the majority being women, children, and the elderly, after a harrowing journey marked by suffering and insecurity. This emergency response was designed as an urgent measure to meet their most immediate needs in the absence of basic life necessities.
The distribution event was attended by community leaders representing the displaced, along with youth and women’s representatives, as well as the Humanitarian Affairs Officer of Kurma Administrative Unit. All expressed deep gratitude and appreciation to the two organizations for their significant efforts and continued support to IDPs and war-affected communities.
Speaking on behalf of the two organizations, Ms. Safaa Ismail reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining humanitarian assistance and working tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of civilians in Darfur. She emphasized that this support is only one step in a broader series of humanitarian interventions planned for the coming period.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, Ms. Mahasin Abdullah praised the organizations’ efforts and issued an urgent appeal to international humanitarian organizations and United Nations agencies to act immediately in providing critical assistance—particularly food, shelter, and medicine—to those displaced from El Fasher and its camps. She further warned that the humanitarian situation risks catastrophic deterioration if urgent measures are not taken.
Both Darfur Victims Support and the Hope & Refuge Organization reiterate their humanitarian and moral obligation to stand with displaced persons and support them in their plight. The two organizations also call upon the international community and humanitarian agencies to uphold their responsibilities in responding to this escalating humanitarian crisis.
