Within the framework of the emergency response to combat the measles outbreak, the Hope and Haven Refugees Organization, in partnership with the Darfur Victims Support Organization (DVSO), implemented an urgent humanitarian intervention in Abu Karinka Locality, aimed at supporting the local hospital with essential medicines and medical supplies.
During the field visit, it was found that the hospital was suffering from a total lack of medication; the pharmacy was empty, containing nothing but vacant shelves. This situation has led patients to stop visiting the hospital due to the unavailability of even the most basic treatments.
This initiative is the first humanitarian intervention of its kind within Abu Karinka Hospital. It aimed to provide urgent support to patients, especially those infected with measles, as well as individuals with chronic diseases who were unable to obtain their medications—even simple painkillers were unavailable.
According to statements from medical staff, one child died due to measles in the Eastern Neighborhood a week before the intervention, reflecting the gravity of the health situation in the area.
The provided medications were in high demand among patients, especially given that many are unable to access treatment due to deteriorating economic conditions.
It was also noted that the hospital lacks the most basic operational requirements, including water and sanitation services, and that medical staff are intermittently suspending work due to the absence of essential medical supplies.
In this context, the two organizations call for urgent intervention by humanitarian organizations and supporting entities to provide further medications and health services, and to enhance the capacity of health facilities to respond to emergency situations.
Hope and Haven Refugees Organization and the Darfur Victims Support Organization (DVSO) renew their commitment to continue providing humanitarian support, expressing their sincere gratitude to everyone contributing to these humanitarian efforts.
