Statement on the Health Situation in Kabkabiya Locality

Kabkabiya Locality in North Darfur State is witnessing extremely critical health conditions due to the rapid spread of measles and pertussis (whooping cough) epidemics, amidst a sharp deterioration in health services and a significant shortage of essential medicines and medical supplies.

According to field monitoring, the number of infections is increasing daily at an alarming rate, particularly in villages and rural settlements, signaling an imminent health disaster that threatens the lives of children and the most vulnerable groups.

As part of the emergency response, the Hope and Haven Refugees Organization, in cooperation with the Darfur Victims Support Organization (DVSO), provided urgent medical assistance to the Kabkabiya Locality center on April 19, 2026. This took place in the presence of the hospital director, medical staff, and community leaders.

It is noted that there are approximately 32 health centers in Kabkabiya Locality, categorized as follows:

  • 18 centers are partially operational.
  • 17 centers are completely out of service due to the lack of medicines and basic services.

Note: Infection rates continue to rise alarmingly across villages and rural areas.

Accordingly, we demand the following:

  • Urgent intervention by international and local humanitarian and health organizations to contain the spread of measles and pertussis and save civilian lives.
  • Intensified humanitarian response by the Hope and Haven Refugees Organization and the Darfur Victims Support Organization (DVSO) through the implementation of periodic and sustainable interventions in the locality.

The situation in Kabkabiya requires immediate and coordinated action before it turns into a large-scale humanitarian catastrophe.
